Friend Knight
Since writing you my other letter we have been ordered Back from our Red river [sic] trip and ordered to Harrisburg. We had marched part way there so we had to turn Back. We were not sorry either. We started from Fort Snelling last Saturday morning & near Tuesday noon we are pitching tents here. There are several other Regiments quartered here now. We have just received a dispatch ordering us to Washington imediately [sic]. We shall go tonight or in the morning. I would have liked to [have] seen how this place looked but a Soldier has no choise [sic] as to what he would like to do. We all want to go however. I write this in haste to let you know my where abouts & if you have not answered my last, you may direct to Washington, Co. D. First Rgt. Mn. Vol. and I will probably get it if I do not get Hit with Brick Bats going through Baltimore. I like camp life[?] very well so far, but may change my mind when we get into a fight. Tell Bill to write and answer any last letter. Perhaps he has by this time. Excuse this, it is written in haste.
Write soon.
from your Friend
E. A. Walker
