Finding Aid Statistics

The Minnesota Historical Society is the recipient of a Basic Project grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) which will significantly support the cataloging of the Society's unprocessed archival collections. The project targets 4,600 cubic feet of government records and manuscript collections.

Chamblis was a professional photographer working in the Twin Cites metropolitan area. He photographed events in the African American community, families, the nightclub scene, musicians, fashion models, weddings, and landscape views, mainly in Minneapolis (including downtown views and parks).

Martha Cutkomp discusses her background, her interest in art, particularly ceramics, her career as a potter, and her time in Minnesota.
Great Northern Railway Company: A Summary Overview of Its Corporate Records 00522
Records include minutes, reports, correspondence and subject files, financial and accounting records, photographs, engineering drawings, land records, engineering and valuation records, advertising literature, timetables, publications, and many other materials documenting the principal staff and operating departments. Those include the offices of the president, secretary, treasurer, and comptroller; the law and land departments; mechanical and chief engineers; public relations and personnel officers; and managers responsible for rail operations. In addition to the "main line" materials are records of more than 300 branch lines, subsidiaries, and related companies. They include rail and highway transport, oil and mineral, land and townsite, power, irrigation, steamship, lumbering, and stockholding firms dispersed geographically from the Great Lakes to Puget Sound.

Subject files (1890-1970) of the chief engineers contain much information on the construction, maintenance, and improvement of railway lines throughout the Great Northern system, as well as the various architectural structures serving the rail lines including stations and ancillary buildings, water towers, bridges, and docks.

Marriage certificates (1853-1996) and index (1853-1989), birth certificates (1866-1902) and index (ca. 1870-1931), and death certificates (1870-1909) and index (1890-1931).
Morton S. Katz: An Inventory of His Papers 00769
Correspondence, diary (1942), photographs, newspaper clippings, and a few miscellaneous items (1942-1945) relating to a U.S. Army officer who served in the Quartermaster Corps from March, 1942 to November, 1945. He spent most of his service in Australia as a subsistence specialist dealing with the acquisition and distribution of perishable foodstuffs in the Pacific Theater.

Biographical materials (1924-1994), correspondence (1934-1989), literary works and manuscripts (1932-1986), and teaching materials (1934-1986) related to Mulford Quickert Sibley, an avowed Quaker and socialist who taught political science and American studies at the University of Minnesota.

A dismantled album containing portraits of Zimmerman family members. Includes a full-length portrait of photographer Charles A. Zimmerman with tripod and stereo lens, portraits of Edward O. and Paul Zimmerman who partnered with Charles as Zimmerman Brothers, portraits of Charles' mother, wife, and daughter, and portraits of other family members. The majority are unidentified.
