Many date from 1856-1858, when Flandrau was Indian agent for the Mdewakanton and Wahpekute Dakota, and document his management of Sioux Agency affairs, annuity payments, and councils between the Dakota and government officials. Detailed abstracts of annuity payments list the name of the head of each family, the number in the family, and the amount of the annuity. A letter from Nathan Myrick to Captain Flandrau, requesting military units for aid against Indian attacks at Fort Ridgely (August 20, 1862). A set of contracts (1897) reflects his representation of Dakota bands in supporting an 1897 Congressional bill to restore rights forfeited in 1863.

The Forest History Oral History Project is a group of interviews conducted and compiled by John Esse on the history of northern Minnesota. These interviews capture the lives of men and women who homesteaded or came north to work in the lumber industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. While some came from Europe and others from around the Midwest, their stories have a consistent message of community, hard work, and the nature surrounding them in northern Minnesota. Interviewees give numerous depictions of life in a lumber camp and the various jobs they held at lumber companies and mills. Several interviewees fought in World War I, and those experiences are included as well. Interviewed by John Esse, Stan Johnson, Robert C. Wheeler, Bruce Sunbauer, Allan Nevins, and Louis M. Starr.

Crow Wing County Jail, Brainerd 32 color slides that document public buildings, businesses and residences in Crow Wing and Olmsted counties such as Crow Wing County Jail, Brainerd Public Library, and Rochester's Chateau Theatre. Residences include those of Adolph Biermann, John G. Bush, Lucius Fellows, Dr. Werner Hemstead, Christopher Krause, Charles H. Mayo, and Maxwell Pierce. Images were documented by the State Historic Preservation Office in a survey from the late 1970s and early 1980s. A majority of the collection was photographed by Robert Frame with additional images photographed by Bradford Linder and Elizabeth Hall.
