The Latino community is one of the largest and most important in the state, and is particularly noteworthy because its growth has not been confined to the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Notes on My Life and the Lives that Touched It, a memoir of a Waconia, Minn. school teacher, covering the years 1887-1920 and compiled between 1940 and 1950, and a typed transcription (2013) of her memoir covering the years 1920-1943, compiled in the 1960s, and gathered into a narrative by her daughter Victoria Bynum (a few pages of the original are included); The memoirs include details of her life as a child in Minneapolis, her education and teaching career in rural Minnesota, and her marriage and life as a young mother in Waconia, Minnesota, during the Depression. The collection also includes Huckenpoehler's daybook [diary] for March-April 1925 and a typed transcription (2010) by Victoria Bynum; correspondence and miscellaneous papers (1864-1890) of Roderick Evan Daniel (1844-1908), his first wife Mary (1843-1887), and his second wife Jeannette, including three letters (1864-1865) written by Daniel while serving in the 22nd Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War; and letters (1971-1972) to Bynum from relatives in Wales discussing family genealogy. The papers include explanatory notes made by Bynum about the papers and the individuals represented in them. |
