In honor of Women's History Month this month, and the anniversary of the U.S. entering World War I next month, we are highlighting a few collections that concern women and the war front.

The Hortense Bodelson World War I correspondence, 1917-1919 includes letters to and from a school teacher who taught at the Vasa Orphan Home in Red Wing.

The George F. Fairbanks World War I papers, 1916-1930 include a folder of Gold Star Mothers and Widows documentation collected by George's mother Susan Ella Aldrich when she traveled to France in 1930 to visit her son's gravesite.

The Letters received from World War I servicemen, 1917-1918 includes the correspondence of Elsa Horn, a University of Minnesota student who later taught elementary school in Wisconsin.

Chicago Burlington and Quincy's Aeolus, new stainless steel streamlined engine, 1937 Minutes, annual reports, accounting records, valuation schedules, and drawings, station plats, and maps of a railroad company incorporated in 1864 that operated a line in northern Illinois, and that in 1970 merged with several other railroads to form Burlington Northern Inc. The Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad Company (CB & Q) was jointly-owned by the Great Northern Railway Company and the Northern Pacific Railway Company. These records are Great Northern's set of CB & Q records.

The minutes record authorizations for the purchase, sale, or transfer of the state's investments in state and municipal bonds, U.S. treasury notes and bonds, and other instruments of indebtedness; itemize loans made to municipalities, school districts, and other local units of government; discuss other procedures and policies regarding these transactions; and in general document the details of the state's management of its investments and trust funds. They include agenda packets for 1957-1974, and scattered thereafter.
