Appleton bus garage, 2016

This month our list highlights a literal bus garage-full of school records that were acquired from Appleton, Minnesota by our State Archives team. These records came from Big Stone, Swift, Stevens, Lac qui Parle, and Chippewa counties. The roughly 50 cubic feet of records took up two pallets, spanned from the 1880s to the 1990s, and included 56 different school districts!

State Archives did some great facebook posts on these records over the last year and, now that they are all finally cataloged, we would like to share a little about what goes on before the records even get to us. (Since it took about as long to catalog these as it did to acquire and process them, please see the links from previous monthly posts at the bottom of the page for the other school records in this set).

Photocopied articles from Changing times magazine (1970, 1990), describing the Maloneys' budget method and the lifestyle they managed to maintain, are also included.
