What's New

This month's spotlight includes two new and closely related collections: the papers of Edward S. Crozier and records related to the establishment of the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. Edward S. Crozier served as a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service refuge manager and area supervisor, and helped establish multiple refuges to protect migratory waterfowl, wildlife, and fish habitat.

Crozier's papers highlight his refuge management work and include digitized field notes from numerous Midwestern refuges, awards, and career background information.

The Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge collection provides a history of the successful grass roots lobbying effort led by Crozier, local environmentalist Elaine Mellot, numerous local groups, and politicians to establish the Refuge in 1976. The collection also details planning, lobbying, volunteer support, and programming initiatives for developing the 14,000 acre refuge.
