What's New -- April 2020

Facebook video in celebration of National Library Week Yes, as celebrated over the last week of April, the library is the heart and soul of the Minnesota Historical Society. But it is the people who work for MNHS, who visit our library, and whose lives are represented in our collections who give shape and meaning to our own experience.

During his daily press briefing on April 23, Governor Walz mentioned that both the brightest and hardest part of his day was reading the letters he received from people all over the state. He spoke about the pain that people are experiencing and how their lives are being changed by this pandemic and promised that he would give these letters to MNHS so that people in the future could look back at this time.

At this time, while our library, historic sites and museums are closed, we will be taking a pause and this list will be our last for a few months. Here, you can discover the culmination of several projects completed during the month of April. These include digitized copies of some of the military service records of Minnesotans who served in the First World War, audio recordings created at the time of the Wounded Knee occupation on the Pine Ridge Reservation in 1973, and papers focusing on Ken and Barbara Jo Davis and their BBQ sauce. The list also includes many new online finding aids to collections we've held for many years.

When we return, expect some of these projects to continue, others to shift shape, and new projects to emerge. We look forward to that time when the letters people are now sending the governor can be discovered through the Library as a part of our past.
