What's New -- June 2021

This month we are delving into the papers of Minnesota artist Mike Lynch. A realist painter and prestigious public artist, Lynch intimately documented the everyday life, industrial sites, skylines, streets, and iconic landmarks of Minnesota. His work captures vivid scenes from Minnesota's Iron Range, iconic dive bars of the Twin Cities, and scenes of back streets and industrial landscapes set in the cold nights of Minnesota winters.

His papers explore the span of his career, starting from his origins as a child prodigy in Hibbing, Minnesota to his numerous private and public exhibitions to his lifetime achievements and recognitions. The papers also provide Lynch's own sketchbooks, journals, notes, art instruction books, and project files, which offer insight into Lynch's creative process, techniques, and skill sets utilized in his work. The papers also include samples of his work, including drawings, illustrations for publications, posters, paintings, and prints produced from woodcut blocks. Lastly, the papers include materials related to his exhibitions, business records, press coverage, reviews of his work, biographical information, and files related to his numerous accolades.
