Ferdinand Willius Papers

Ferdinand Willius We are pleased to announce the completion of a new electronic finding aid for the Ferdinand Willius and Family Papers. The Willius family originated in Bremen, Germany and arrived in Saint Paul in 1855-1856 where they engaged in the banking business. They were eventually associated with the German American Bank, the National German American Bank, and the Germania Bank.

Much of the correspondence is in Old German script. A long-time Minnesota Historical Society volunteer has translated hundreds of the letters into English, and these translations have been added to the papers. This collection has been unavailable while the translating project was underway, but it is now back and ready for research use.
