What's New -- September/October 2022

Happy Halloween! It is also the last day of American Archives Month! As we celebrate all of the great accomplishments we've had over the last several months we are specifically highlighting the work of our digitization team on the Conservation Department: Photographs by Napoleon Nadeau collection. If you are into trees, and they are amazing this time of year, then this is the collection for you! Also watch for a lightning-round session about this collection at the next TCART (Twin Cities Archives Round Table) conference!

Nadeau was hired in 1932 as department photographer for the Conservation Department and charged with both documenting the work of the department and producing photographs for educational purposes. His work was used in exhibits, as well as being published in newspapers and journals including the Minnesota Conservationist. He served in this capacity until 1937. Nadeau also developed the first aero camera used in the United States, made the first aero photographs in the Twin Cities, and served in the Secret Service and the National Guard during World War II.

Information includes date, name, cause of death, case number, place of death, residence, demographic information, place of burial, name of undertaker, and a note if an autopsy was accomplished or not. The volumes dated October 1906-December 1963 are indexed. The volumes dated January 1964-December 1989 are not indexed, and are entitled Medical Examiner Reports. In addition to the information above, the Medical Examiner Reports also include the name of the investigating agency and toxic findings; the place of burial is not included.
