American Archives Month is October

October is American Archives Month! Coming up this month in the archives world we have Electronic Records Day on October 10th and #Ask an Archivist Day on October 16th.

Newly added accession this month include the Friends of the Sibley Historic Site (Mendota, Minn.); the King and Van Buskirk Family Papers; the Minnesota Inventors Congress Records; the Mount Zion Hebrew Congregation (Saint Paul, Minn.) Records; the Sibley County, Green Isle Community School Records; the Sherburne County City of Elk River Records; and the SweatShop (Saint Paul, Minn.) Records.

Collections with additions or added digital content include the American Association of University Women, Minnesota State Division Records; the James Boyd Hubbell Papers; the Project Minnesota/León Records; the Soldiers Home Hospital/Clinic Records; the Stillwater State Prison Photographs; and the Secretary of State Session Laws.

Detailed inventoryCorrespondence, diaries, accounts, and legal papers of Hubbell, a founder of the Northwestern Fur Company, documenting its creation and management (1865-1870); Dakota-white hostilities (1860s) on the upper Missouri River; Hubbell's unsuccessful prosecution of Indian depredations claims (1868-1903); and the removal of Minnesota Dakota bands to Fort Thompson, South Dakota (1860s).

King and Van Buskirk family papers: An Inventory of Their Papers 01559
Predominantly family letters, as well as genealogical information, land records, and newspaper clippings regarding the intertwined King and Van Buskirk families, who were homesteaders in Nobles, Cottonwood, and Murray counties of southwest Minnesota. The collection was compiled by Carrie Alice King Olson and is largely comprised of letters sent to her and her parents, William Clancy King and Lillian Van Buskirk. Letters are also included from the extended and descendant members of the Olson, Lindquist, Johnson, Peter, and Brandon families.

Adelard Cunin (aka George 'Bugs' Moran) correspondenceInstitutional case files and commitment papers for boys and girls considered to be delinquents by the state of Minnesota. Initially, inmates were homeless, neglected, and dependent children (mostly boys ages nine to fourteen). In 1895 a court conviction for crime (except murder) became a prerequisite, and beginning in 1911 the facility housed delinquent boys only.

Prison construction albums, 1910-1914. Volume 1Black and white photographs mounted on linen and tied into two volumes, documenting the prison's construction (1910-1914) and numbered 1-151. The photograph albums cover all aspects of construction, both interior and exterior, and were taken by C.J. Hibbard & Co., commercial photographers from Minneapolis. Also includes black and white photographs of an unknown artist's rendering of an aerial view of the prison, grounds and interior shots, fires, and an open house.

Organizational records of Sweatshop, a health and fitness club founded by Gayle Winegar in 1981. Records include newsletters, press clippings, marketing, and administrative records. Collection also contains a set of materials regarding the organization's Real Swimsuit Calendar, issued in 1999.
